One lonely
afternoon
I awoke
from a drunken
slumber
and reached
toward my
nightstand
for a
long lost
dream
It had
scattered
away as
I slept -
I muttered
and mustered
and sputtered
about
Found my
shoes
so I could
follow it
That dream
had found the
slightest crack
and escaped
outside my
window
It rolled up
a mountain
climbed down
a valley
in search of
someone new.
When i finally
caught up
to my fleeing
dream
I inquired,
"Why did you leave?"
I forgot
about me
and I forgot
about you
and those moments
in the hammock
under the stars
So wide-eyed
and full of wonder
so ready to be
free
But instead
I shackled
myself with
the chains
of others
and said it
was okay
I wish to
awake from
the slumber
I wish to dream
again
I wish the dream
to believe in me
as I believed
those stars
As I believed in
you.
